Types of Malware

Malware Malicious software created to cause harm to a computer, server, or computer network.

  1. Viruses
    • A self-replicating program that spreads and infects the system when executed.
    • Example: Blaster.
  2. Worms
    • A program that replicates and spreads through networks without human interaction.
    • Example: Morris Worm.
  3. Trojans
    • Appears as legitimate software, deceiving users into executing it to perform malicious actions.
    • Example: Emotet.
  4. Ransomware
    • Encrypts the victim's data and demands a ransom for the decryption key.
    • Example: CryptoLocker.
  5. Spyware
    • Secretly monitors and collects user data without their knowledge.
    • Example: Spybot.
  6. Adware
    • Displays unwanted and intrusive advertisements.
    • Example: Fireball.
  7. Rootkits
    • Allows hackers remote unauthorized access to a computer.
    • Example: Zacinlo.
  8. Keyloggers
    • Records user keystrokes.
    • Example: SpyEye.
